James 1:20 (GNT) Human anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose.
Hebrews 10:30–31 (CSB) — 30 For we know the one who has said, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, and again, The Lord will judge his people. 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
There isn’t a single corrupt police officer or “terrorist” in these riots that I wouldn’t die for to save right now because I know that it is not human anger, fighting, or resistance that saves the world, but forgiveness, sacrifice, and love that redeems us from the grip of darkness.
Everyone is crying out for justice, and that is exactly what God will bring upon this world when the day of judgment comes. Every soul that cried out for justice while inflicting injustice upon others will answer to God for their sins. Every soul that judged another for their corruption will be judged by their own standard for the corruption that they inflicted upon the world. And every person that was filled with self-righteous indignation over other people’s sins will face the righteous indignation of God for their share of the darkness that they inflicted upon this world.
“Today” is the day of salvation.
Romans 5:8 (CSB) — God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God took on flesh and died for those who despised him. Jesus Christ then ascended to the heavens to become our Advocate before the Throne of Grace, and sent out his body – the Church – to carry that testimony of love into the whole world!
There is no denying that those carrying the name of Jesus committed great atrocities in his name – for which they will answer to God – but there is also no denying that the Church has carried the testimony of Christ’s love throughout this world!
The cross is before us all today. You must decide if you are going to deny your urges for revenge and anger, pick up the cross of Christ, and radically love those who both despise you and your God, or if you are going to give in to the anger and malice of the day, take up the sword, and subdue your enemies with force under your boot. The choice is yours. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD in love and entrust him to balance the scales of eternal justice that only he can balance.
